How to use the Matching Simulation UI

Ever wanted to make changes to your matching configuration and wanted to test the changes to confirm they have the intended effect? Well, now you can with the Matching Simulation UI.

The simulation UI makes it easy to test your matching configuration changes to ensure they have the intended effect.

The matching simulation UI brings match configuration testing directly to the customer admin. From the match configuration UI, the admin has access to two kinds of simulation testing:

  • Test the configuration against specific activities to verify that they produce the desired matches.

  • Test the configuration against the original configuration to determine, at an aggregate level, how many activities would be affected and the expected change to match quality.

Let’s get into how you can make that happen.

Tip: You do not need to save the changes before testing them in the Simulation UI. That way, if the changes aren’t what you’re looking for, you can click off the Matching tab.

Where to Find the Specific Activity Simulation UI

You can find the “Simulation” button in the bottom right corner of the Configuration Profile’s Matching tab.x

The Simulation UI will allow you to gain insight into how changes to your matching configuration will affect the matching of your activities.

How Does the Simulation UI Work?

You can use the simulation UI to specify a list of past activities and compare the original match to what it would be given the current (unsaved) configuration. After you’ve made your changes in the Configuration UI (attach link), start the simulation process by selecting some of the activities on the left.

Should you need to narrow down the initial list of activities for selection, you have a few options. You can use the:

  • Search bar: Search for a specific participant, account, or opportunity.

  • Date filter: Use the predefined time ranges or the calendar widget to specify your desired time range.

  • Matching dropdown: This dropdown can be used to filter by matched or unmatched activities.

Clicking on any of the activities in the Activity Selection section will move them over to the Baseline Set. Once you have the list of activities you want to compare, click the Run Simulation button at the bottom of the list.

The Simulation UI will show you an output that will look something like this. The green activities are those that would match differently due to a configuration change, whereas the grey activities would maintain the exact match. These results can help determine whether or not the prospective changes you’ve made to a configuration profile are done correctly.
