Enterprise companies often have more than one email domain. When your team interacts with an Account that has multiple email domains, you will need a way to capture activities across all these variations. This will ensure that Backstory accounts for all activities related to any given account.
Historically, Backstory only referred to the standard website field to determine an Account’s domain. However, with Multiple Account Domain Support, you can rest assured knowing that no activities will fall through the cracks.
Note: You will need to create a new Mapping Domain object for every domain associated with that account.
The primary domain does not require a Mapping Domain SObject; only additional or alternate domains are needed.
The Benefit
Say you’ve been communicating with someone at the Acme Corporation whose email domain is acme.us. Later on, that client adds his colleague to the email thread, and the colleague has a domain of acme.ca. Without this feature, a new contact would not be created because of a domain mismatch.
After enabling the feature, however, if a conversation becomes international, you can be confident that Backstory will capture all the contacts you care about, and subsequently, all activities related to those contacts.
Enabling Related List of Domains
Create a custom SObject in Salesforce. We recommend naming it Mapping_Domain__c
Create the following fields on the custom object:
Contact support@backstory.ai with the following information:
SObject name (1)
Account Lookup field name (2.1)
Additional Domain Name field name (2.2)
After Support has confirmed that the backend mapping is complete, you'll need to associate the relevant domains in the Map Domains tab in the relevant Accounts. It needs to be in a Related list to the Account object.
After this step is done, ask Support to process a recalculation to re-analyze the existing raw data set to get updated values.
If you have any questions while setting up this feature, please contact us at support@backstory.ai.
