CRM Impact

Backstory delivers significant value to customers across all industries and sizes by syncing business-relevant activities and Smart Contacts with Salesforce. Historically, however, it hasn’t always been easy to quantify the data that’s captured by Backstory and synced to your CRM.

It’s with this in mind that we’ve introduced CRM Impact.

This page of the Impact module highlights exactly what Backstory has captured and synced to Salesforce, on what scale, and segmented by various visualizations.

In other words, CRM Impact enables any Backstory admin to quickly understand and share the impact Backstory is having on your CRM, with no data scientists required!


A set of cards can be customized and assigned to any standard or custom field on your Account object. For example, at Backstory, we use a custom field called "Account Segment" on the Account to identify which accounts fall into our Strategic, Enterprise, or Commercial teams. If you would like to customize these cards or adjust the existing cards, please reach out to support@backstory.ai.

How it works

The CRM Impact page evaluates Smart Contacts, Opportunity Contacts, and activities captured for your organization. Upon opening the page, the view will default to the last calendar year. To adjust this time frame, simply use the date range picker at the top of the page.

The page will also default to displaying all cards simultaneously. To isolate your view to Smart Contacts, Opportunity Contacts, or activities captured, click one of the three boxes at the top of the page.

Tip: There are a few cards that require manual configuration, so if something does not look right or if a card is blank, please reach out to your Backstory CSM or support@backstory.ai.
If you don’t have a particular type of sync enabled, such as Opportunity Contacts or Meetings, those cards will remain on the page but may be empty.
Additional cards that can be configured according to your CRM practices. If anything looks incorrect, the fields used to populate those can be updated.

Each available card allows you to download a .png image of the visualization for the specified time, along with a summary .csv file containing the presented information. This is helpful if you’d like to further analyze this data or create a presentation to share with your stakeholders.

Things to consider

  • Avg. Per User is based on the current count of users with sync on, not the count of users who had sync on over the selected time period.

  • Smart Contacts' attribute percentages reference the current coverage of that field on the contact and are not strictly limited to what Backstory has created. For example, if you have a Salesforce rule that adds the country from the Account to all of the contacts on that Account, these numbers will be reflected here.
