Backstory Administrator Responsibilities and Access

Understand administrator responsibilities and how to access the Backstory Admin Panel.

Backstory administrators play a critical role in the operation of your organization’s Backstory platform. They are the users your organization designates to install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot your Backstory instance.

Administrators are responsible for:

  • Access: Users, teams, and configuration profiles

  • Integrations: CRM, email, calendar, and messaging connections

  • Data flow: What data is synced to and from Backstory

  • AI configuration: Which records are available for AI analysis

  • External connections: BI tools and API keys

Backstory administrators control these settings in the Backstory Admin Panel. For a complete list of available settings, see the Admin Panel Page Directory.

How Do I Know If I’m a Backstory Administrator?

Only Backstory administrators can access the Backstory Admin Panel, the central settings hub for your Backstory instance. You can check whether you have access to the Admin Panel from Backstory Engagement Dashboards.

  1. Click the grid icon in the top-left corner.

  2. Look for the Admin Panel in the dropdown menu.

If the Admin Panel appears, you are a Backstory administrator. If you don't see the Admin Panel, you don't have administrator access.

How Do I Get Administrator Access?

If you need to configure or manage Backstory as part of your regular responsibilities, ask an existing Backstory administrator to update your Permission level to “Admin” on the Users and Teams page of the Admin Panel.

For more information, see Permissions.

Note: Because the settings in the Admin Panel can have organization-wide impact, administrator access should be limited to users who understand your organization’s data, security, and integration requirements.
